The Cicada Research Fang is a stainless-steel Taurus TX22 FRT designed for reliable fitment, long-term durability, and a smooth forced reset. This component replaces the factory disconnector and uses movement of the slide to force the trigger forward and reset it after each shot. Each shot still requires a separate function of the trigger.

Manufactured and finished by Cicada Research in the USA, this Taurus TX22 forced reset trigger uses the publicly released ODD MFG V7 geometry. Every part goes through a two-stage finishing process to remove burrs, soften sharp edges, reduce friction, and minimize unnecessary contact with the striker block.

What Does a Taurus TX22 Forced Reset Trigger Do?

A forced reset trigger, commonly called an FRT, uses the cycling action of the firearm to mechanically push the trigger forward into the reset position. On the Taurus TX22, this FRT replaces the factory disconnector inside the trigger assembly.

When the slide cycles, the FRT forces the trigger forward so it can be activated again. The firearm remains mechanically dependent on a separate trigger function for every shot. This design allows faster and more consistent follow-up shots without changing the basic operating action of the Taurus TX22.

Why TX22 FRT Geometry Matters

There are numerous TX22 FRT shapes and files in circulation, and they do not all perform the same. The two most important factors are geometry and finish.

Incorrect geometry can create tolerance-stacking problems, inconsistent reset, poor fitment, or excessive contact with the striker block. Roughly cut metal parts can also retain burrs and sharp edges that increase friction and unnecessary wear.

The ODD MFG V7 geometry was developed to improve fitment and reduce the excessive striker-block contact associated with some older metal FRT designs. Cicada Research uses this publicly released geometry and concentrates on producing a properly finished, installation-ready component.

Two-Stage Stainless-Steel Finishing Process

Each Cicada Research TX22 FRT goes through two separate finishing stages:

  1. Ceramic deburring: The components are tumbled in ceramic media to remove cutting burrs and soften sharp edges.
  2. Stainless-pin polishing: The parts are then polished with stainless-steel pins to create a smoother, lower-friction surface.

This process is intended to produce a cleaner component than an unfinished or roughly cut FRT. Proper finishing helps the part move smoothly and reduces unnecessary friction inside the trigger assembly.

TX22 Compatibility and Fitment

This FRT has been tested for consistent fitment across a wide range of Taurus TX22 pistols. Taurus has produced multiple TX22 models and generations, and manufacturing tolerances can vary between individual pistols.

The Tombstone adds 1.5 ounces of reciprocating weight to the TX22 slide assembly. This additional mass slows slide movement and can improve reliability in forced-reset mode, particularly when running suppressors, certain ammunition, or configurations without the additional weight of an optic.

The Tombstone is CNC-machined from steel, professionally nitrided for corrosion and wear resistance, and threaded to accept optional charging-handle attachments. It is compatible with all TX22 models, although extremely light Competition configurations may benefit from a heavier recoil spring.

Expected Wear and Maintenance

No metal-on-metal trigger component is completely wear-free. Some rounding or contact wear can develop inside the striker block over time. Similar contact can also occur with the factory disconnector.

The V7 geometry and two-stage finishing process are intended to reduce unnecessary wear, but they cannot eliminate all contact. A light trigger finger is recommended. Inspect the FRT, striker block, and related components regularly, and stop using the product if you observe abnormal wear, damage, or inconsistent operation.

Is this TX22 FRT made from polymer?

No. This version is manufactured from stainless steel and replaces the earlier polymer version previously sold by Cicada Research.

Is this a five-pack?

No. This listing includes one stainless-steel Taurus TX22 FRT.

Does the FRT require permanent modification?

The component is designed as a replacement for the factory disconnector, without permanent modification to the pistol. Individual firearm tolerances can vary, so proper fit and operation must always be verified after installation.

Will a stainless-steel FRT cause wear?

Some metal-on-metal contact and normal wear can occur. The V7 geometry and Cicada Research finishing process are intended to reduce unnecessary contact and eliminate the sharp burrs found on unfinished components, but no metal FRT should be described as completely wear-free. I have reports of over 4000 rounds without failure.
